Fixing the problems
of commercial bins & waste management
Environmental Impact
Reducing the number of waste collections not only lowers operational costs but also significantly cuts down on CO2 emissions with fewer collection journeys.
Customer Complaints
Putting a stop to overflowing bins reduces tenant complaints and can increase your tenancy renewal rates.
Missed Collections
By maximising bin space with our scheduled service, we ensure that bins are not overflowing, minimising the chances of missed collections due to inaccessible bins.
Pest Infestations
Overflowing bins attract pests and vermin. Squosh prevents infestations by compacting waste, maintaining bin hygiene, and ensuring timely collections to keep environments clean and pest-free.
Cost Savings
Handling excess waste often incurs additional costs. By preventing overflowing bins, we help our clients save money on extra waste removal services and potential fines.

The Man Behind the Van
Eric started his first business at 17, hiring a mini-bus to take teenagers on seaside day trips and clubbers home after the bars had closed. Since then, he has gone on to start many more ventures.
He has also spent over a decade volunteering as a Business Mentor for The Prince’s Trust, where one of his mentees went on to win the prestigious Pride of Britain award. As the former Lead for Enterprise & Innovation, Eric helped more than 300 businesses and social enterprises to launch across the North West of England, ensuring they had access to funding, support and premises.
Eric is a qualified Business Advisor, an accomplished Business Mentor, and an accredited Business Coach with nearly 20 years of experience supporting others to develop their ideas and start their own businesses.
The Spark Behind Squosh
As featured in The Guardian (March 2025), Squosh was born out of Eric’s lived experience. Living on the 19th floor of a high-rise in Eccles, Greater Manchester, he grew frustrated as his block became a dumping ground for waste. Bins would be emptied on Friday and be overflowing again by Sunday. Sofas, tellies, and other bulky items would appear, making the bin store an eyesore.
Working at the time for his landlord, the housing association ForHousing, Eric was already leading innovation projects. He trialled a mobile compacting service in 2020 that proved effective. But after a restructure made his role redundant, he decided to take a leap of faith. At 60, he invested his modest redundancy and private pension into buying a van and machinery – and Squosh was born.
“Some people shout: ‘What are you doing with our bins?’ We make it look like the rubbish was never there. The lids close and the place is tidy. That’s all people want.” – Eric McBean, The Guardian
Squosh quickly gained momentum. The first customer was Pennine Care NHS Trust, followed by housing associations and other organisations. Within its first year, Squosh was shortlisted for national business awards and expanded its fleet to a second van.
To launch the business, Eric successfully pitched to investors while protecting his patent-pending idea and trademark business name.
